DAYS TO HARVEST
70 from transplant
Start seeds indoors with soil temperatures ~60 degrees (minimum 55 degrees). Plant ~1/4″ in soil and keep evenly moist. Make sure seedlings have enough light otherwise they may become leggy and not develop properly upon transplanting. Harden off transplants around 4 or 5 weeks by bringing trays outdoors a few days to a week before transplanting. The plants should have 3 or 4 true leaves at this point.
Partial to full sun
Prefers clay-loam soils with a pH close to neutral. May require additional calcium or boron.
~20″ in between plants
Cole crops and their waxy leaves are particularly well suited to colder growing regions especially if adapted to the area. Cauliflower usually withstands a couple frosts.
Watch the main stem as it starts to form a head – if blanching, tie string/cloth strips or use a rubber band leaves over the forming heads to protect from sun. Check the head as it forms and remove main head as the head starts to separate.
