Camphill Wedding Garlic 790

Hardneck variety. Plant out in October and November, about 1-2 inches deep and 8-10 inches apart in well composted soil. Mulch well. Shoots may emerge in the autumn or early spring. Harvest scapes in June and bulbs in July. This beautiful, large cloved white german type garlic is our staple garlic here in Camphill Village. It has been grown and selected in our valley for over 40 years. Its scapes, which are tender, delicious and mild when picked before they straighten, emerge during the June wedding season. They have often been used in bouquets and flower arrangements. Remove the scapes to encourage bulb growth. Garlic scape pesto is an essential early summer treat, garlic scape pickles are a year round delight, and the scapes can be chopped and frozen for the winter. Scapes can be used in stir-fries, soups, on the grill when young and tender, etc. The bulbs are long storing for hardnecks, often lasting until the following May or June with careful storage.
