(Celosia cristata) Annual. Chinese medicinal. 2-3 ft. Stunning, large, velvety burgundy, magenta, peach and occasionally pale yellow heads bloom July through Sept. Excellent in flower arrangements. Beautiful in borders. Most often used as an ornamental or as a cut flower. Some plants and flower heads exhibit more than one color. Long lasting as a cut flower, used in winter arrangements, wreaths and flower crowns as a dried flower.

Blazing sunset cockscomb seeds grow beautiful flowers for fresh bouquets, but also dries very well. Hang small bundles of the flowers with stalks upside-down in a dry, warm, dark place. We use these to decorate our Christmas Tree, as they hold a lovely red color, but they are also a welcome addition to any dried flower arrangement or wreath. When you are drying the flowers, put a sheet underneath and you will be able to collect seeds for next year’s garden!
