Description
Nigella sativa, or Black Cumin seed is a traditional flavor for the large, flat breads which are a staple of many north African cuisines. We’ve also used them to sprinkle on grilled zucchini rounds topped with lemon-zest-flavored hummus as an appetizer, kneaded into breads, or as an addition to sauerkraut. The unique flavor once tasted is likely to become a must-have. Goes exceedingly well with anything grilled.
Try with: grilled cauliflower with lemon juice/zest, olive oil, feta, chickpeas, fresh mint leaves and fresh figs, just to get the ideas flowing….
Direct sow in early spring. Pale blue/white flowers top feathery leaves. Gather the seeds from the horned seed pods that emerge after the flowers have faded.
