Ventura Celery Seeds

SOWING
Sow ventura celery seeds in flats when soil temperature is around 65 degrees. Starting mix should be high in finished compost. Lightly cover with soil and keep evenly moist until germination. Germination may take 2-3 weeks. Transplant at 8-10 weeks.

SOIL REQUIREMENTS
Celery is a heavy feeder. Soil should be high in finished compost. Celery may require a boost of magnesium and/or calcium – add composted leaves to soil or compost mix. For proper nutrient uptake into the stalks, watering schedule should be consistent.

Celery prefers to grow in cooler climates and can with withstand light frost (32-34 degrees) and may become sweeter with cooler temperatures.
HARVEST
Harvest entire stalk by cutting or slicing at the base where it meets the soil when stalk is at desired height. If blanching is desired, wrap stalks of celery in thick paper 2-3 weeks prior to harvesting.

The strong flavor of celery is a delightful addition to many dishes including egg, chicken, and tuna salads, soups and stocks, stuffing, or on it’s own as a fresh and palate cleansing snack!
