Ventura Celery Seeds
DAYS TO HARVEST
Sow ventura celery seeds in flats when soil temperature is around 65 degrees. Starting mix should be high in finished compost. Lightly cover with soil and keep evenly moist until germination. Germination may take 2-3 weeks. Transplant at 8-10 weeks.
Celery is a heavy feeder. Soil should be high in finished compost. Celery may require a boost of magnesium and/or calcium – add composted leaves to soil or compost mix. For proper nutrient uptake into the stalks, watering schedule should be consistent.
Celery prefers to grow in cooler climates and can with withstand light frost (32-34 degrees) and may become sweeter with cooler temperatures.
Harvest entire stalk by cutting or slicing at the base where it meets the soil when stalk is at desired height. If blanching is desired, wrap stalks of celery in thick paper 2-3 weeks prior to harvesting.
